5 out of 5 stars Great Overview of Entire History Course   June 9, 2010

I recently took an AP US History course and bought this book on previous experience with the AP World History book (which I got a five in).

This book is really handy because it internalizes the major eras of all the periods covered by the AP Exam. I found it particularly useful for the essay questions on the AP Test. However, I would discourage anyone from using this book if they are learning things from scratch without taking a history course. It's much better to take an accompanying US History course as this book tends to be more broad than others. Also, the "important" terms are bolded and indexed, making it extremely easy to search for specific terms in a period.

2 out of 5 stars Definately not the best.   May 29, 2010

I really didn't like this book, even though it presented some useful strategies and had a lot of content. The strategies would be taught by any good AP US teacher, and the content was all globbed together, and wasn't in chronological order. It doesn't make sense to me to review different subjects in American history out of order. The exam requires you to understand each ERA in detail, and in some cases, requires you to know particular dates and years. This book didn't review the content in a helpful way. The only use I got out of this book was some good practice from the practice tests. I'd definitely recommend the Kaplan AP US History book, in addition to the corresponding note cards. Since this book didn't click with me, I used the Kaplan notecards to easily review the nitpicky dates, acts, eras, proclamations, etc.

If you have plenty of time, then this book will be a great product for you. It's a lot bigger than i thought it would be. There is A LOT of information. Okay product, but if you don't have much time, i'd recommend REA's Crash Course.

This review book is even better than I expected. Princeton Review is certainly the better review book especially if you're barely buying the book and are going to be on a short leash...
